People flock to admire Ingleburn’s new largest church

A  RECORD number of parishioners are flocking daily to the new Holy Family Catholic Church in Ingleburn with the new building accommodating about 600 people.

Bishop Peter Ingham consecrated the new church on February 1 after 30 years of fundraising.

Parish priest Father Peter Caruana said the new church has been well received by residents and the wider community alike.

“A lot of people have admired the new church and people have even called in wanting to see it inside,” Father Caruana said.

Father Caruana said the new church featured a Romanesque design.

“It is the largest church in Ingleburn and really stands out because of its Romanesque design. There is also a bell tower to go with it.”

The new church also features stained glass windows and natural lighting.

“We have about 400 schoolchildren and they all fit comfortably in the church along with their teachers and parents,” Father Caruana said.

“It has a really nice and bright atmosphere about it and it was designed perfectly to accommodate for the extra space we needed.”

Father Caruana said the plan was always to build a new church so the old church could be turned into a parish and school hall.

“The previous church was built as a temporary measure until the new church was built. Before we could start, though, we had to build the school and that started in 1980,” he said. After construction for the school was completed in the 1990s, Father Caruana said loans for the building had to be paid before funds for the new church could be raised.
